Planning Your First Visit to Presbury

We know that attending a church for the first time can feel intimidating and maybe even awkward, especially if you don't know anyone or anything about our denomination or Christianity. We want your first visit to be an experience of the love of Christ and our caring church family for you. Please feel free to contact Presbury Church Office with any questions you may have prior to your visit. Below are some answers to some common questions that may help you as you plan your first visit to Presbury:

  • What is The United Methodist Church and what are Presbury's core beliefs?
Presbury is a part of The United Methodist Church and shares in its rich theological heritage, witness and mission around the world. Presbury claims the core beliefs of the UMC. (You can read about the UMC's beliefs here)  At its core, the UMC has a commitment to social holiness, with a strong focus on putting our faith into action, striving to live out its vision "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." At Presbury we do our part to make disciples and transform lives by casting a vision for the ministry we do together: "We are a Church striving to be a beacon in our community by sharing God's love." Presbury is part of our large and diverse connection of United Methodist Churches locally and around the world. We are a part of the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference and the Baltimore-Suburban District in the Baltimore Region.

  • What is your worship service like?
Presbury's worship has traditional elements that you will find at most United Methodist churches with prayers, hymns, scripture and a sermon every Sunday. We also utilize creative and contemporary elements, depending on what we are focusing on in worship. There are no assigned seats in the sanctuary, so please feel free to sit wherever you like.

The worship environment at Presbury is laid back and light-hearted, full of warm and friendly people. Every Sunday, there is a time for people to voluntarily share their joys and concerns in the worship service, which helps keep us prayfully connected with one another. We always end our worship time together holding hands in a circle as we sing a song of blessing for one another and our world.

  • When do you serve Holy Communion?
Holy Communion is served every first Sunday of the month in the worship service. You do not need to be a member of the church to recieve communion. All are welcome to recieve Holy Communion at Presbury. We serve communion via the method of intinction - by giving a person a piece of bread for them to dip into a cup of grape juice and then partake.

  • What should I wear?
People come to Presbury wearing anything from dresses and suits to jeans and t-shirts and flip-flops. There is no dress code. You are welcome as you are!

  • Where are you located?
Presbury is located at 806 Edgewood Road in the heart of Edgewood, just a few minutes off Interstate 95, exit 77A. The Sunday worship service is located in the sanctuary and a time of fellowship and food happens every Sunday after worship. All are invited!

  • Where do I park?
There is plenty of free parking available in the lot around the church. Our front entrance will lead you to the lobby where a greeter will be happy to point you to the sanctuary to your right.

  • Is your building wheelchair accessible?
Our building has wheelchair accessible entrances, exits and bathrooms.

  • Do you have childcare during the worship service?
All children are invited to participate fully in the worship service. We welcome children as they are and do not expect them to be quiet or still in the worship service. Please know that it does not bother us if your child squirms, roams or cries in worship. You are welcome to sit wherever you like, and we encourage you and your child to sit close up so your child has a better view and can engage more fully in the service.
Presbury has a special "Prayground" in the front of the sanctuary created especially for children to play and engage with quiet and creative toys. We believe that play is a form of worship and we encourage that from our kids during the worship service!
We do not have a nursery at Presbury, but we are committed to helping support you and your child as you worship together. Children ages two and up are invited to attend Sunday School in the fellowship hall after the Children's Sermon in worship. All volunteers who work with our children must go through Safe Sanctuaries training and a background check.
